About Us

The Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Open University (BAOU) was established by the Act No.14 of 1994 passed by the Gujarat State Legislature on 13th April, 1994. It is recognized under section 2 (f) of the UGC Act, 1956 by University Grants Commission (UGC). The University offers 80+ programmes with an enrolment of more than 8,00,000+ learners. All the programmes of the university are approved by the Distance Education Bureau (DEB), University Grants Commission.

The headquarters of the university is located at Ahmedabad. The University has established 07 Regional Centres across Gujarat. The University has more than 280 study centers. It is open to all persons irrespective of classes, castes, creed, religion or sex.

Achievements :

  • University, is accredited with A++ Grade (3.55 CGPA on 4 Point Scale) by National Assessment Accreditation Council (NAAC).
  • University has been entitled to offer programmes under Online Mode by UGC DEB.
  • University has been granted Category – I Graded Autonomy Status by University Grants Commission (UGC).

The important and distinguishing objectives for BAOU are to:

  • Advance and disseminate learning and knowledge by a diversity of means, including use of any communication technology,
  • Provide opportunities for higher education to a large segment of the population,
  • Promote the educational well-being of the community generally, and * Encourage the Open University and distance education system in the education pattern of the Sate

Centre for Online Education (COE)

The "Centre for Online Education (COE)" of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Open University was established in accordance with the University Grants Commission (Open and Distance Learning Programmes and Online Programmes) Regulations, 2020 vide the resolution no. 4.20 of 4th meeting of the Centre for Internal Quality Assurance (CIQA) held on 9th February, 2021.

The aim of the Centre is to provide for affordable access to quality education through an online learning environment for anyone, anytime and anywhere.

Objectives

  • To coordinate with the various stakeholders within the university viz. academic division, the schools of study, Centres and CIQA for creating an environment for the adoption of the University Grants Commission (Open and Distance Learning programme and Online Programmes) Regulations 2020 in letter and spirit.
  • To make the existing Open and Distance Learning (ODL) mode compliant to the CBCS structure through the incorporation of Online elements in the ongoing degree and diploma programmes of the university, as advised in the aforementioned Guidelines.
  • To provide need-based online learning opportunities for professional development and skill upgradation to existing workforce through non-credit awareness courses.
  • To design and develop instructional methods suitable for online courses
  • To ensure quality assurance in design, development and implementation of online education
  • To create appropriate IT infrastructure for promotion of online education
  • To provide an inductive, secure online environment in which every learner will acquire the skills and knowledge necessary to become accomplished, productive members, of the ever changing, global community.
  • To offer flexible learning opportunities anywhere, anytime and to provide ultimate convenience, ease and flexibility to learners.
